AIRPORT TRANSFERS
We have geared our Airport Transfer Guide to getting to and from East London.
FROM ANY AIRPORT BY CAR:
KABBEE APP
Download the Kabbee App onto your smartphone. We use this app pretty much every time we travel from any airport to our home in East London because it's always cheaper than Uber, especially when you book the car ahead of time. We've spent as little as £40 from Heathrow to our place - a good deal! This app aggregates a variety of 'Mini Cab' companies and finds you the best deal for your journey.

When you book through Kabbee, you will have to provide the terminal, expected landing time and flight number so that the driver can time his pick up accordingly. The driver will want to call you around your pick up time, so it works best if you can accept phone calls from British phone numbers.
UBER APP
The Uber app works for those who are familiar with it and prefer to stick to one smartphone app. Your ride from the airport won't be inexpensive, but if you're willing to figure out an optimal pick up spot at your arrival terminal, you know you're in good hands. Use Uber to get around London very easily throughout the rest of your visit.
BLACK CAB
Taking a Black Cab from the airport will definitely be the most expensive car option. The advantage is that you will easily find a taxi stand at any airport and another plus is that Black Cab drivers always make wonderful conversation for the long ride to your accommodation. Most of them have been living in London for years and know the city inside out. Ask them how they've seen the city change throughout the years, you'll hear some great stories for sure!
BY PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:
To get anywhere in London on public transportation, you will need to purchase a pass called an 'Oyster Card' at a London underground (Tube) station with a teller - unless you have a contactless credit card without any provider limitations on it (sometimes foreign cards don't work). This will work to travel on the Underground, Overground (orange line), Thameslink trains, as well as all the buses. You can buy one ahead of time at the link below, or you can buy one at the Heathrow tube station. The Oyster card itself costs £5, which you can reclaim when you leave. When you add money to your card, we suggest you top it up with a minimum of £10 for the weekend, over zones 1 and 2 only.
